Nov 28, 2022

Southside Eye Centre is delighted to have Dr Ken Ng joining our team.

Dr Ken Ng is a consultant ophthalmologist with subspecialist interest in retinal treatments. His practice areas include retinal detachment surgery, epiretinal membrane surgery, macular hole surgery, cataract surgery and secondary lens surgery, and treatment for age related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and retinal vein occlusions. Dr Ng is committed to delivering excellent, tailored, specialist care in your neighbourhood.

Having received the David Symon Trust Prize in 2006, Dr Ng embarked on 5 years of medical education in the University of Otago, New Zealand. He graduated in 2011 and quickly dedicated the rest of his professional training to Ophthalmology. Dr Ng has been a humble recipient of a number of academic and research prizes, but he is most proud of the Francis Billson Prize in Ophthalmic Physiology awarded by the University of Sydney in 2013.

In 2016, Dr Ng was admitted to the specialist training programme of the Royal Australia and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologist (RANZCO). He completed the 5-year programme in Auckland and Wellington - two of the largest centres in New Zealand. Dr Ng subsequently honed in his subspecialist skillset in retinal treatment in a year-long fellowship in Wellington.

In 2022, Dr Ng further consolidated his clinical experience in the sought-after vitreoretinal fellowship at St Paul’s Eye Unit in Liverpool, which boasts one of the busiest eye centres in the United Kingdom. During his 12-month tenure, Dr Ng was involved in a number of research initiatives, including the Biobank project. He is a member of the British and Eire Association of Vitreoretinal Surgeons (BEAVRS).

In his spare time, Dr Ng enjoys a glass of red and snorkeling in tropical waters, but not both at once! Having lived on 3 continents, he enjoys reading about how history and geography shape our present society. Akin to proud Roman acquisition, he names his precious indoor fig trees Corinth and Carthage.
